Getting married in Australia is governed by Australian law. As a government-authorized civil marriage celebrant, my role extends beyond creating the perfect ceremony. I am committed to ensuring that all legal obligations are met before officially registering you as a married couple. Rest assured, I will guide you through the entire process, making it stress-free and straightforward.
The first and most crucial document we'll complete together is the 'Notice of Intended Marriage' (NOIM / NIM). This legally significant form, which I will provide and assist you in completing, must be submitted between 18 months and 1 month before your wedding date. Please note that a new Australian Government NOIM / NIM came into effect from 1 September 2021.
Alongside the Notice of Intended Marriage form, I will assist you with other essential legal aspects of getting married, including declarations and obtaining standard government-stamped marriage certificates.
Valid identification is a key requirement for marriage. Additionally, if applicable, evidence of divorce or the death of a previous spouse must be provided. For further information on these requirements, please feel free to contact me.

Since December 2017, the right to marry in Australia is not affected by sex or gender, and same-sex marriage is legal. The Marriage Amendment (Definition and Religious Freedoms) Act 2017 came into effect on 9 December 2017, redefining marriage as "the union of 2 people to the exclusion of all others, voluntarily entered into for life."
I respect the outcome of the 2017 Australian referendum on same-sex marriage, regardless of the votes cast. As a civil marriage celebrant, I have chosen to remain inclusive and open to individuals of any age (18+ or court-approved if under 18 years), race, gender identity, sexual orientation, class, ability, language, or cultural background.
